The following is part of our "Your Stories" series on different ways Facebook is used across the world. Submit your story to us and we'll consider featuring it in future posts.

Richard Whennell, a music teacher in the English town of Bracknell, had wanted to start a community choir for years. It wasn't until the American television show "Glee" hit British shores that he decided to take action.

...On the show, a motley crew of high school students join forces to form a small choir, or glee club. Richard wanted to create a similar chance for his neighbors—a place for people to come together to sing their favorite songs.

Along with his wife Melissa, also a musician and teacher, Richard started thinking about the best way to promote the group. Initially, they considered distributing leaflets and fliers around their neighborhood, but concluded that involved a lot of work without guaranteed success. "I didn't want to go out and print a whole bunch of fliers and hire a hall if there was going to be no support," said Richard.

Melissa suggested they try a Facebook group, and the initial response was exciting. Within 24 hours, the Bracknell Glee Club group had almost 40 members.

"This looks fantastic!" wrote one member on the group's wall, "I cannot wait for this to start!"

Encouraged by the interest, Richard searched for a venue and created a Facebook event for the first meeting on March 4. By that point, the group had swelled to 100 members.

The first sessions of the Bracknell Glee Club have been a resounding success. Between 40 and 50 people, aged anywhere between 12 to 74, now meet regularly to sing songs like "Don't Stop Believin" and "Never Gonna Give You Up." Melissa says the club's aim is to promote the idea that everyone can sing, while also making people feel good about themselves and their community.

The group is still attracting people on Facebook and now has more than 200 members. It allows Richard and Melissa to let people know about arrangements and rehearsal details, and more importantly, provides a forum for members to communicate directly with each other outside of events.

"It's lovely to feel like the group exists the whole week long, rather than just the 2 hours that we get together on a Thursday evening," Richard explains. Adds Melissa, "We feel really blessed to be living in a time of such great technology."

We're continuing to enhance the Facebook Gift Shop so you have more ways to express your appreciation for the people in your life. A couple months ago, we took a first step by testing new types of gifts created by developers, including e-cards, charity donations and even real-world gifts where you can buy a friend a physical gift along with a virtual one.

We now are unveiling a newly stocked and redesigned Gift Shop, with new categories of gifts and additional gifts for charity, music and sports from developers. With so many gifts available, we... also introduced a new design to make it easier for you to browse and purchase gifts with different gift categories. We will be rolling these changes out to everyone in the coming weeks, so don't worry if you don't see them just yet.

Remember, in order to buy Facebook Gifts, you must purchase credits on the site using a major credit card. Credits cost 10 cents in U.S. currency, and they are available for purchase in 15 currencies. After you select your gift, click "Buy," and we'll walk you through the rest.

      Music Gifts (U.S. only)
You now will be able to purchase songs as gifts for your friends. The "Music and MP3s" section of the Gift Shop, powered by LaLa.com, offers over 8 million songs for any music lover from artists such as Beyonce, the Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, Imogen Heap and even Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Web songs are 1 credit each, while full, downloadable, and digital rights management-free (DRM) MP3s are 9 credits each.

Gift recipients can play their Web songs and MP3s from their Facebook News Feed and wall as frequently as they like, as well as from LaLa.com if they have an existing account or choose to sign up using Facebook Connect. MP3 recipients also have the added ability to download their songs and enjoy their gift on music players like iTunes and Windows Media Player. Other people who are able to see the music gift will only be able to play the song in full once, after which they will be able to play a 30-second clip.

      Sports Gifts
For the next big game, be sure to rally your friends by sending them their favorite team's mascot or jersey with branded virtual gifts. Officially licensed gifts from the U.S. National Basketball Association and U.S. Major League Soccer are now available in the Gift Shop, as well as school-themed gifts from a number of major U.S. colleges ranging from Oklahoma State to Stanford University. These gifts are offered in the "Sports" section of the Gift Shop.

      Gifts for Good
You already can purchase gifts on behalf of non-profits, including Kiva, Project Red, TOMS Shoes, Charity Water and the World Wildlife Fund. The net proceeds of those gifts are donated to the organizations. Now, you'll be able to support even more causes your friends care about through gifts offered by the Causes application in the Facebook Gift Shop.

My sister is an animal-lover and for her upcoming birthday I'll be making a contribution to the Humane Society of the U.S. through a Facebook Gift that will go towards towards animal rescue efforts by that organization. In addition to the proceeds that directly impact the cause, my gift will appear as an image on her Wall.

Whether your gift contribution is for disaster relief, world hunger, medical research or education, your gift will have a financial impact and help spread the cause's word.

With a greater variety of gifts, we hope that you will have even more freedom to express how you feel for every occasion. Look for even more gifting options to come over the next few months.

Will, an engineer, is excited to be making the new Gift Shop available to his friends in time for his birthday.

The following is part of our series on different ways you can use Facebook to connect with public figures and organizations around the world. Read the previous blog post in this series here.

Summer Solstice has just passed, and around this time I take my annual stock of summertime plays, operas and ballets offered in my area and in places I hope to visit in the coming months. I always collect an endless wish list of events that are tailored to relaxing summer afternoons and long, sky-lit evenings.

...Yet despite my best efforts to keep track of seasonal offerings, the litany of websites I visit and glossy brochures I gather can be overwhelming. It's not until September that I come across that brochure for a not-to-be-missed production of "Much Ado About Nothing" in the park, only to realize that the final bow had been taken in July and the stage disassembled just before Labor Day.

This year, I'm relying less on picking up pamphlets at box offices, and more on notices direct from fine arts companies that appear in my News Feed on Facebook. Many savvy councils for the arts have Facebook Pages, where I can read reviews, find discounted tickets and get notifications about upcoming events. Here are but a few of my favorites:

Behind the Scenes at the Opera

The Royal Opera House recently posted a note about this summer's BP Big Screens, showing operas in parks and public squares around the United Kingdom — from Trafalgar Square in London to Millennium Square in Bristol.

Across the pond in Iowa, the Des Moines Metro Opera, in preparation for "The Barber of Seville", posted a call for ushers on opening weekend at the end of June. If you're an opera aficionado, you can also watch a behind-the-scenes video on the company's page, showing the assembly of the set evoking Rossini's Italy.

      Special Offers to the Ballet

The San Francisco Ballet is using its Facebook Page to notify fans that the company will be on tour in China this summer. Even while the company is out of town, you can still receive updates about ample local opportunities to attend student performances that showcase the company's rising talents.

Check out offers on special ticket prices for fans of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City and be sure to leave feedback on recent performances you've attended.

Meanwhile, the Australian Ballet reminds you that June is Nutcracker Season in Sydney — the perfect excuse to lose yourselves in swirling snow and colorful marzipan.

You can also RSVP for your favorite performances directly from the theater company's Facebook Page to let your friends know that you're planning to attend. So if you're booking tickets for "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in Richmond, Va., you can share your plans with your friends. They may even be willing to help gather the perfect summertime picnic to enjoy under the stars.

Elizabeth, an associate on Facebook's Communications team, can't wait for the arts to come knocking on her News Feed this summer.

The following is the first in a new series on different ways you can use Facebook to connect with public figures and organizations across the world. Read the next blog post in this series here.

Last month, we made it easier to connect with your favorite public figures, celebrities, artists and organizations so you can receive and share information with all the people and things you care about in your life. For instance, I'm a huge Britney Spears fan, and last weekend I went to her concert in San Jose, CA. Immediately after the show, I uploaded... photos to Facebook and shared them to Britney's Page along with a Wall post that my friends and I loved her concert. Over Easter, I even learned through a status update that Britney was having brunch with her dancers at a hotel, just 30 minutes away from the Facebook office.

Britney is just one of many musicians and artists who recently launched a new Page on Facebook to connect with fans and share videos, music and a behind-the-scenes look at her life and experiences on tour. Here are a few other interesting examples:

      Lady Gaga
If you're connected with Lady Gaga — one of the most popular musicians on Facebook — you'll receive regular status updates from her tour and get an inside peek at what she's doing, such as this status last week, "Palm springs, white party I'm ready for u. I'm so excited to see the boys xxx." You'll also have the opportunity to access the latest from Lady Gaga including videos and photos from her tour. This past weekend, she announced a contest to win an autographed poster and updated her status from London, gushing about the video for her new single, "Paparazzi."

      Sara Bareilles
When singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles first joined Facebook, she updated her status with: "hi all. It's me sara. I'm going to try and be a facebooker now." Five minutes later, she had received over 1,000 responses, prompting another update, "oh em gee. that was the fastest response ever. you guys are right. this IS addictive. get back to work, okay? ;)" Be sure to check out her frequent updates and photos from her latest tour.

      Wynton Marsalis
Jazz musician, Wynton Marsalis recently hosted an exclusive question-and-answer session on Facebook. He received over 500 questions and had a real-time discussion with fans on his Facebook Page. Check out Wynton's latest video of a rehearsal at Lincoln Center, photos from the "He and She" release party, a contest to win an iPod pre-loaded with his music and a Facebook note with his thoughts on challenges that musicians face.

These are just a few of the ways you can connect directly with some of the artists on Facebook. Stay tuned for more Notes, status updates, videos and other posts directly from your favorite musicians and celebrities.

Randi Zuckerberg manages marketing and political initiatives for Facebook, when she isn't listening to Britney Spears, of course.
