Friends on Facebook are constantly helping each other connect with more of the people and interests that matter in their lives. As more of your friends like the Facebook Pages of their favorites celebrities, public figures, businesses and organizations, you may see them suggested to you in the Suggestions box in the right column of your home page. You also see posts in your News Feed as your friends like Pages or share content from them.

But if you're new to Facebook, you don't have a lot of friends to help surface those suggestions. That makes it to harder to connect with all of the interests and people you care about so you can receive updates from them.

To help out newcomers, we're launching a new way for them to find interesting Pages. Starting today, when new people join the site, they will see a list of Pages that other people in a similar demographic to them also commonly like.

We want to make sure that the Pages people connect to are as valuable as possible, so we'll only suggest Pages that are posting engaging updates. The list of Pages is strictly determined by an algorithm, so none of the suggestions is sponsored and Page administrators can't pay or ask to be included.

Everyone can help newcomers on Facebook. If you see that a friend or family member has recently joined Facebook, suggest a Page to them that they might like. Maybe you both are fans of the same musicians or follow similar sports teams. Just click the "Suggest to Friends" link underneath the profile picture on those Facebook Pages and help your friends get started.

Ziqing Mao, a software engineer at Facebook, hopes every user can find their favorite pages.
